The Sydney Hand Surgery Clinic (SHSC) was founded by a specialist Plastic, Reconstructive & Microsurgeon with a proven clinical and academic record in the development of hand surgery. Working in the busy trauma hospitals throughout the Sydney West Area Health Service the need for a better system to cater for patients with isolated hand injuries was recognised.

Poorly managed hand injuries can have a devastating affect of the livelihood of those affected and their families. Regrettably, overburdened public hospitals give patients with isolated hand injuries a low priority. When they are seen, such patients are often reviewed by numerous inexperienced staff and even transferred to another hospital before any treatment decision is made.

We therefore had the vision and insight to create an efficient, specialised surgical service for patients with isolated hand injuries.
